Se rechaza día festivo para honrar a César Chávez en Arlington, Tejas


En Arlington, Tejas se ha rechazado una propuesta de crear un día festivo en honor a César Chávez, con 5 votos en contra y 2 a favor. El día se iba a celebrar a finales de marzo empero el Comité de Calendarios del distrito escolar de Arlington rechazó la medida por que inferiría con los exámenes estatales que se suministran a los estudiantes por esas fechas. Sin embargo, hay personas que dicen que tal decisión fue equivocada porque podrá mandar un mensaje negativo a la comunidad hispana que forma un 38% de la población de la zona.

(Holiday to honor César Chávez rejected in Arlington, Texas)

In Arlington, Texas a proposal to create a holiday in honor of César Chávez was rejected with five votes against and two in favor. The day was to be celebrated at the end of March, but the Calendar Community of the Arlington School District rejected the measure because it would interfere with state exams that are given to the students around this time. However, there are some who say that the decision was wrong since it could send a negative message to the Hispanic Community which makes up some 38% of the local population.


Embajador ecuatoriano reconocido por la ciudad de Washington, D.C.

El embajador del Ecuador en Estados Unidos, Dr. Luis Gallegos, recibió un reconocimiento del gobierno de la ciudad de Washington, D.C. por su trabajo a favor de los minusválidos y los derechos humanos en general. Entre otras entidades, Gallegos pertenece al comité de las Naciones Unidas contra La Tortura y Otros Tratos y Penas Inhumanas, Crueles, y Degradantes además del grupo de Liderazgo Mundial sobre los derechos humanos y empresas multinacionales. Le concedieron el honor al embajador en un evento organizado por La Cámara de Comercio Hispana de Washington.

Ecuadorian ambassador recognized by the city of Washington, D.C.

The Ecuadorian ambassador to the United States, Dr. Luis Gallegos, received a recognition from the government of Washington D.C. on account of his work on behalf of the handicapped and human rights in general. Among other entities, Gallegos belongs to the United Nations Committee Against Torture and Other Inhuman, Cruel and Degrading Treatment and Punishment, in addition to the World Leadership Group on Human Rights and Multinational Companies. The ambassador was given the honor in an event organized by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Washington.
